baby basils in March

April 15 is the magic day. Tax day as well as the day the plants can finally go in the ground here in Tennessee. I’ve been nurturing about ten pallets of baby basil, little tomatoes, marigolds, broccoli, parsley, green/red bell peppers, rosemary and a could of little dianthus. They’ve been “hardened” and watered with cans of roof water from our new water barrels– two of which now fill regularly from the down spouts.

Time for the little guys to go into the ground and try to make it on their own. It won’t be easy. We’re jamming too many plants into smallish raised beds and a tiny side yard strip… the nice fluffy soil is visited by the feral neighborhood cats and used as a potty, and my thumbs are less-than-green… but it’s worth a try!

I’m attaching photos of the little plants a few weeks ago.
